The hospitality industry is one of the biggest causes of landfill waste. Instead of being a contributor to this problem, SMHCC chooses to be a responsible partner. Through the company’s concerted efforts in rigorously monitoring the properties’ respective GHG emission scores, SMHCC is able to apply a credible and science-based approach to guide and achieve sustainability results. Specifically, in 2019, composting diverted 1.2 tons of caterers’ food waste from the landfill. Measuring the GHG emission score gives an indication of operational efficiency by showing how resources are used and balanced out by diversion efforts of recycling, upcycling, and repurposing.
